Day 4

Updated: Oct 4, 2022

Today, we first headed to Checkpoint Charlie, which was the best known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin. We walked across Gendarmenmarkt where we saw the Berlin concert hall, and two cathedrals. Our next stop was Bebelplatz where we met the headmaster of ESBZ, he told us more about the square surrounded by Humboldt University and the opera. We saw empty book shelves underground which helped us remember the burning of books by the Nazis. After that we went to the school and met the students of ESBZ there. We had a nice chat and learnt a lot about their school system ( “Herausforderung” seems a cool concept - check it out on their website) and we also told them about our school systems in Austria. After the meeting we split into groups and visited different museums. One group went to the German Spy Museum where they saw lots of cool gadgets and spy tricks and there were also some funny games. Others went to the photography exhibition at Amerikahaus on “Queer life”, which was very impressive and thought-provoking. The last group went to Pergamon Museum, with a 360 degree full immersion experience of ancient Pergamon with sound and lights. Pretty cool and impressive!!
