Day 0&1

Updated: Oct 2, 2022

Impressive first day of our trip to Berlin!

By 7 pm the 6k had arrived at the Graz Hauptbahnhof and everybody made sure they had the necessary documents. Everyone boarded the train and got in their assigned cabins. We settled in and started chatting in the hallway. At 12 pm. the 6k sang Happy Birthday for Jan and all together it was a great bonding experience. The trainride stopped in the night at Cheque Republic. In the morning of the day, we woke up in the train that took us to Berlin. At 8:30 we all had breakfast in our cabines. We arrived at 10:00 at Berlin Hbh. We were in a hurry to get to our hostel to store our luggage and then get to the Stasi prison Hohenschönhausen.

We watched an intro video explaining what Hohenschönhausen is and then we split into 2 groups to get a guide who took us on a tour through the prison, showing and telling us how it was to be a prisoner there. The cells were very simple. There was only one bucket and a bed out of wood with a tiny mattress in the cell. The rules were inhuman, for example they had to sleep everyday on their back with their hands on their blanket. If they moved in a comfortable position, they would be woken up to move again to the correct position. The tour was very impressive and quite shocking.

After the visit at Hohenschönhausen we went back to our hostel and had a bit of freetime and afterwards we had dinner at 19:00.
